Growing Healthy Kids: FIGHTING OBESITY WITH FITNESS, FUN ...

Here?s a couple of myths I hear a lot from people:

MYTH 1: It?s hard to teach kids how to eat healthy.

FACT: Teaching kids how to eat healthy doesn?t have to be hard. Start with a simple food project and teach them a new skill. Give them some room to try new flavors.

MYTH 2: Eating healthy is too expensive.

FACT: When you choose foods that are in season, especially foods grown by your local farmers, it can be inexpensive to eat healthy.

MYTH 3: Youth Guidance has plenty of adult mentors for the kids they serve.

FACT: There are still 400 kids on?Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Program's waiting list hoping to be matched with an adult mentor. Through our collaborative education programs, we help identify mentors for these?kids.

Learning how to eat healthy and stay fit is what we do in the programs taught by Growing Healthy Kids. We engage kids in the process by having ?fun with a purpose? as Ronnie Hewitt used to say to me.

So here?s a story about what we did last Saturday. Fitness, Fun, and Food was the theme at our Growing Healthy Kids with Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Program event held at Riverside Park. Twenty great kids and a handful of adult volunteers spent the morning getting fit on the fitness trail, checking out the cool things to do and see at Community Day at Vero Beach Museum of Art, then learning how to make Fresh Corn Salsa. The food was fabulous and the young chefs had a blast learning some basic techniques used in the kitchen, such as how to use a knife, how to slice vegetables, and even being daring with a couple of ingredients. The cool thing to watch was that ALL the kids wanted to be involved, not just some of them. They ALL wanted to wear the Growing Healthy Kids aprons that give them superpowers for eating healthy foods. They ALL were having fun with the purpose of learning how to eat healthy, one vegetable and one child at a time.

Below are some of the pictures from our Saturday event. Be inspired to teach your own children about the joys of having fun with a purpose, especially in the kitchen. A very special thanks to Rebecca Hornbuckle of Veggies of Vero for supplying the farm fresh veggies for this event. The flavors of the just-picked tomatoes, peppers, and spinach were so delicious. The juicy navel oranges decorated our ?al fresco? dining in high style.

Hillary Clinton, the United States Secretary of State, slammed Russia and China for opposing United Nations resolutions focusing on Syria, even going as far as to call them ?despicable.?

The Azeri Press Agency (APA) reports via the Associated Press that ?more than 60 nations began planning a civilian peacekeeping mission to deploy after the Damascus regime halts its crackdown on the opposition.?

Obama turned up the heat on his rhetoric as well, saying that the United States and allied nations would utilize ?every tool available? to bring an end to the violence in Syria.

This is one of the clearest indications of plans for military action I have seen yet, especially since the closest they would get previously is just saying something to the effect of ?nothing is off the table.?

?It is time to stop the killing of Syrian citizens by their own government,? Obama said in Washington, adding that it ?absolutely imperative for the international community to rally and send a clear message to President Assad that it is time for a transition. It is time for that regime to move on.?

This is also some of the most transparent language calling for regime change in Syria, although it seems to have always been the case that the opposition and their Western supporters have no interest in dialogue ? instead focusing solely on regime change.

While the so-called ?Friends of Syria? conference in Tunisia failed to accomplish anything other than the threat of increased sanctions (which ultimately hurt the average Syrian people more than the Assad government), Clinton raised the prospect of a military coup in Syria.

?We saw this happen in other settings [e.g. Egypt, which is still ruled by a military junta] last year, I think it is going to happen in Syria,? Clinton stated to reporters at the close of the meeting.

?We also know from many sources that there are people around Assad who are beginning to hedge their bets ? they didn?t sign up to slaughter people,? she claimed.

Unfortunately for her, the military defectors who have formed the Free Syrian Army, best characterized as an armed terrorist group, indeed are slaughtering people and that is exactly what they signed up for.

?It?s quite distressing to see two permanent members of the Security Council [Russia and China] using their veto while people are being murdered ? women, children, brave young men ? houses are being destroyed,? she said. ?It is just despicable and I ask whose side are they on? They are clearly not on the side of the Syrian people.?

Clinton?s constant appeals to the ludicrously abstract ?Syrian people? have become ridiculous, especially given the considerable support Assad still enjoys amongst his people.

It?s just like Libya, where massive numbers of Libyans were marching in support of Gaddafi yet the Western media continued to tell us that the entire populace wanted him out.

If the Syrian people paid any attention to what happened in Libya, I think they would want to steer clear of any foreign intervention, especially when it means that your liberators will be bombing schools for children with Down syndrome.

The story of the Syrian uprising has been long and rife with deception, mis/disinformation and record levels of propaganda, as I have been heavily documenting for months now. If you are not familiar with the situation, I highly recommend you do some reading and educate yourself on this contentious topic.

The parallels between Libya and Syria are numerous, especially when it comes to al Qaeda?s support for the opposition.

Also like Libya, the West has begun to set their sights on the new unelected, unaccountable and wholly undemocratic leadership to put in place in Syria.

It appears that it might be the Syrian National Council which emerges on top, after the ?Friends of Syria? (who are really the enemies) declared the council ?a legitimate representative? of the Syrian people.

The next step is officially calling the Syrian National Council ?the legitimate representative? thus unilaterally making them the representatives of the Syrian people without any input from them whatsoever.

More sanctions are on the way, which means even more pain for the struggling people in Syria. France stated that the European Union would be joining the nations who are freezing the assets of the Syrian national bank held in EU jurisdictions.

Meanwhile, Clinton said that the United States? already strong sanctions would only be strengthened.

To make matters even worse, Saudi Arabia called for arms to be given to the opposition, including the Free Syrian Army, which has bragged about attacking government targets and is operating using the same tactics as groups who the United States would rabidly fight back against and dub terrorists if they were anywhere else.

?I think it?s an excellent idea,? said Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal, referring to arming the Syrian rebels.

While the Obama administration had previously pretended to oppose giving arms to the opposition forces, they recently opened the door to such a possibility by saying that a political solution is not necessarily the only option if the situation continues on as it has.

Qatar?s Foreign Minister, Hamad Jassim bin Jabr al-Thani, has also been a large player in the anti-Assad propaganda onslaught. He directly called on Assad to resign while also promoting the creation of so-called ?humanitarian corridors? along with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Others who have called for such zones include French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe and other members of the Arab League along with Turkey. NATO has repeatedly claimed that no such plans are in place but Russia has alleged that this is completely untrue.

One must keep in mind the massive role Qatar played in crushing Libya, even going as far as to run ground operations for the rebels, all while controlling the narrative through their propaganda house al Jazeera.

Others called for a foreign invasion and occupation under the guise of an ?Arab peacekeeping force,? including the new Tunisian President, Moncef Marzouki, who hosted Friday?s conference.

Marzouki claims that such a force would be needed to ensure stability during a transition of power, although I seriously doubt that an occupation force is going to bring stability into the equation.

The meeting resulted in the group giving the United Nations a green light to begin the process of creating plans to dispatch a joint Arab League-UN operation in Syria which would likely be mostly made up of civilian police.

According to APA, Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Secretary General, is going to begin the process of recruiting potential contributors to the mission and prepare the mandate for the operation.

The key here is that this operation would technically not be a foreign military intervention since it would be a ?peacekeeping force? made up of supposed civilians.

However, that isn?t stopping anyone from dispatching numerous undercover special operations teams to run things as they did in Libya.

One of the most interesting and least-reported events of the Friends of Syria conference came when around 200-300 pro-Assad protesters stormed the conference, chanting the national anthem and condemning the actions of the United States, France, Turkey, Qatar and other nations for their meddling in Syrian affairs.

?We are against this conference! These individuals are not friends of the Syrian people,? one protester said while others held signs with slogans like, ?Enemies of Syria = Friends of Israel? and a picture of Assad with ?All of us are with you? written on it.

What little coverage was give to this incident in the Western media was brief and most importantly it ignored the fact that this is a strong indicator that indeed the ?Friends of Syria? are not representing the abstract ?Syrian people? but instead their own interests and those who support them.

After all, events like these are quite detrimental to the continuity of the Western narrative surrounding Syria and thus must be marginalized and ignored as much as possible.

All I can do is hope that the plans for intervention fall through and this tragic situation is resolved without a single more drop of blood from either side.

Instead try adding a prefix or suffix such as www.doctorsinnewyorkonline.com or www.emergencydoctorsinnewyork.com. Needless to say if you really want to hyphenate, use no more than 1-2 hyphens.
3. Keep your domain names short and don?t elongate them to longer than 3 or 4 words. For example if you run a hardware shop called ?Anthony Bradley and Sons Hardware & Electricals?, you may want to use www.abradleyandsons.com or www.bradleyhardware.com. You definitely don?t want to register www.anthonybradleyandsonshardwareandelectricals.com!
4. Even if you operate as franchise or dealership for a major company, avoid using branded company names in your domain as this is illegal and you could get sued. If you want to use brand names in your domain always get written permission from the brand owners.

Just imagine if you registered all your keywords as domains- you could easily own the first page of Google for those keywords with proper SEO!

The true litmus test of a good keyword is whether you will be able to rank for it easily in about 1 to 3 months. If a keyword is very competitive it could take 6 months to 1 year to see your website on Page 1 of Google for that keyword. 1. First of all install SEO Quake on your Firefox browser. This tool will give you important statistics on the each and every search engine result.
2. Enter your keyword term in the search engine. It?s best to use Google since it has the lion?s share of search engine users. Just type in the keyword in plain text and do not use any quotation marks.
3. Focus on analyzing the first page results and particularly the top 3 results since these get 80% of the clicks. After all this is where you want to see your website ranking.
4. First check the page rank of the sites that are currently ranking on page 1 using the SEO Quake tool. If a majority of the sites, especially the top 3 have page rank of 4 or under, that is a green light. However if you see page ranks of 5 and above, then that term is very competitive and will take your 6 months plus to get decent rankings.
5. Next check the number of backlinks that each site has. If the sites have 100 or less backlinks that is a good sign but if the backlinks are over 500 or several thousand, then we may want to drop that keyword. Remember we are looking at backlinks to the page/article and not the website. A website can have many backlinks pointing to its domain or homepage, but not to the page that is currently ranking.
6. Next we want to analyze these backlinks to see if they are from sites with high page rank. If you click on the backlinks link under the result, a new window will open that lists the backlink sources. Look through the list and take note of the page rank of each result. If these are from low page ranks such as 0 to 2, then that shows these are of lower quality and will be easy to outrank if you use better quality backlinks.
